Patternmaking Essentials Course
Take control of fit and design garments tailored to your body in this beginner-friendly Patternmaking Essentials course in Sydney. Ideal for confident home sewers, this hands-on class teaches you how to draft your own patterns using your personal measurements—moving beyond commercial sewing patterns.
You will create skirt, bodice and pant blocks using industry-standard methods, sewing calico toiles (prototype garments) to test and refine fit. Through guided fitting and adjustment, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how patterns translate into finished garments and how small changes affect shape and comfort.
By the end of the course, you’ll transfer your refined patterns onto durable cardboard blocks with seam allowances, hems and construction details—resulting in a set of reusable templates for future garment projects.
Course Outline
- Skirt Block: Take body measurements, draft a skirt block, construct and fit a toile, and finalise a cardboard block.
